THE COACHING-GO-ROUND, CHIEFS CONNECTED TO GM JOBS & HOW FAR WILL "GANG GREEN" FALL?

Man, it's tough keeping up on the coaching moves in both college football & the NFL. I'm no longer bothering with rumors, unless they have an interview, I'm not going to bother mentioning them until something more solid is made public. Here are a few of the latest names & places that have been verified.

My choice for new Chiefs defensive coordinator, Jacksonville's Mel Tucker, will stay with the Jags as their D.C. He had been their interim coach after Jack Del Rio was fired. Former Atlanta offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey was hired to be the new head coach & he announced former Falcon QB coach Bob Bratkowski will join him in Jacksonville as the new offensive coordinator.

Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel will be his own defensive coordinator. He will retain all of his defensive assistants. No word on who will run the offense, but he said they have a number of candidates to interview.

I told you Bill Callahan would be joining the Dallas Cowboys as their offensive line coach. Today it was announced he will become the offensive coordinator, a job head coach Jason Garrett has held for 4-years.

San Diego offensive coordinator Clarence Shelmon has retired after 37-years as a football coach. He'd been the Chargers' O-coordinator since 2007.

Two former NFL offensive coordinators will interview for a like position with the University of Alabama. Boise State's Brent Pease was offered the job but chose instead to take the same position at Florida. Brian Schottenheimer & Dirk Koetter, formerly of the Jaguars, will be interviewed in Tuscaloosa over the weekend.

Todd Haley spent Thursday in New Jersey being interviewed by the New York Jets. Tony Sparano was named the new Jets O-coordinator but Haley might be brought in to run the passing game & coach the wide receivers after Henry Ellard was fired on Monday. More on the Jets below.

Raheem Morris, formerly the Buccaneers head coach, has accepted a job on Mike Shanahan's staff with the Redskins.

The night before he was to interviewed for the vacant Tampa Bay head coaching position, Wade Phillips had withdrawn his name from consideration. He announced he will stay defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans. A very smart move.

Carolina offensive coordinator Rod Chudzinski wil interview for the Rams head coaching vacancy on Friday. No word on Jeff Fisher's status & there is even a report the Rams never offered Fisher a job. Bizarre.

The vacant Rams general manager's position still hasn't been filled, but the leading candidate right now is former Chiefs wide receiver Lake Dawson. He is currently vice president of player personnel for the Tennessee Titans.

Current Director of College Scouting for the Kansas City Chiefs, Phil Emery, will interview for the vacant GM job in Chicago.

The Indianapolis Colts hired Ryan Grigson to be their new general manager. He had been the Eagles' Director of Player Personnel.

Cowboy backup quarterback Jon Kitna has announced he will retire from football. He spent most of the season on injured reserve. The 39-year old undrafted free agent played 15-years in the league for Seattle, Cincinnati, Detroit & Dallas. Kitna threw 169 touchdown passes in his career.

The Senior Bowl, which will be played January 28th, named about 40% of the players who have agreed to play in the oldest & best college football all-star game. The six quarterbacks will be Boise State's Kellen Moore, San Diego State's Ryan Lindley, Michigan State's Kirk Cousins, Wisconsin's Russell Wilson, Arizona's Nick Foles & Brandon Weeden from Oklahoma State. The top three QB Prospects will not play in this game, Andrew Luck & RG3 are juniors, so they're not eligible to participate & Ryan Tannehill of Texas A&M broke a bone in his foot which prohibit him from playing. The injury might require surgery which would preclude his participation in the NFL Scouting Combine next month. A number of hot wide receiver prospects will play in Mobile on the 28th. Arkansas' Joe Adams, Baylor's Kendall Wright & Iowa's Marvin McNutt have agreed to play. Baylor RB Terrence Ganoway will play as will 3 of my favorite guys from Boise State. DL Billy Winn, safety George Iloka & running back Doug Martin will join Kellen Moore in Mobile. I love this game as a scouting tool. Eight-two of the best seniors going head-to-head for an entire week & every practice televised by the NFL Network.

i mentioned earlier Todd Haley was back east on Thursday being interviewed by Rex Ryan, Tony Sparano & Jets GM Mike Tannebaum. Why Haley would want to be a part of this nut house is beyond me. I said last year this team would implode eventually, it took over a year & a half, but it happened. My least favorite source, the "anonymous" variety, are waging war on starting quarterback Mark Sanchez. The "sources" say he's "lazy," "inept," "scared" & "not a leader." These comments published in the New York Daily News, came after the Jets blowhard head coach, Rex Ryan, opened a whole can of worms in regard to his starting quarterback. Once he made a few disparaging remarks, some of his players felt it was open season on their starting quarterback. If you've seen the Jets play much over the past three seasons, it's painfully obvious it doesn't take much to disrupt his confidence.

Backup QB Greg McElroy said last week there were players in the Jets' locker room more concerned with personal stats over winning. Ladainian Tomlinson criticized a few teammates who didn't give their all every week. All-Pro center Nick Mangold said Thursday the teammates "who are trashing Sanchez need to put a name with their comments." Owner Woody Johnson said "Sanchez is anything but lazy." Once the owner chimes in, maybe it's time to keep quiet. In other words, no more anonymous crapolla. After the season, Ryan stated Brian Schottenheimer would return as offensive coordinator, as would the rest of the offensive coaching staff. That lasted a week, Schottenheimer was shown the door this week, as was wide receivers' coach Henry Ellard. Offensive line coach & assistant head coach Bill Callahan left on his own, taking a job with Dallas as offensive coordinator. Todd Haley is considering this as an option to collecting a couple of million dollars from Kansas City for doing nothing. Haley has also been linked to the offensive coordinators position with the Arizona Cardinals. Let's see, Plaxico Burress & Santonio Holmes versus Larry Fitzgerald & a dynamic pair of youngsters, Andre Roberts & Early Doucet. Rex Ryan vs. Ken Whisenhunt. I'm confused, is turmoil something he needs more of in his life? Having 5 kids isn't enough already?

I've never been a fan of the Ryans, not Rex, his twin brother Rob or their dad Buddy. Respected defensive coaches all, but at what price? This trio seems to thrive on boastful remarks they have difficulty backing up, but it never keeps them quiet. When your coach constantly stands in front of microphones, shooting his mouth off, sometimes trashing the most fragile ego on the team, the starting quarterback, it's going to be a problem. This seemingly gives a few of the most vocal malcontents free reign to rip into anyone on the team, anonymously. Then in an unprecedented move, Rex Ryan names Santonio Holmes team captain before the season begins. Normal protocol is the entire roster votes for their captains, they're never named by the head coach, except by Rex Ryan. Now you have a captain that has been benched for dogging it in crucial situations & loves to trash teammates, not the  leadership skills a captain is supposed to exhibit. I think the New York Jets are near the end as a playoff contender, a lot of things will have to change very soon to head off the implosion "Gang Green" is headed for right now.
