HALL OF FAME VOTING, PATS CUT A PLAYER & LAST MINUTE SB STUFF

I was right on 4 of the 5 men who were voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame yesterday. I had Willie Roaf, Dermontti Dawson, Cortez Kennedy & Curtis Martin. I was wrong on Cris Carter, defensive end Chris Doleman made it instead. I was truly surprised to see Bob Gretz's reporting that Will Shields didn't even make the first cut. Bob's a voter in the room, so he would know. Doleman certainly has the resume, 150 lifetime sacks. I'm not shocked by the results, just surprised that this group of wide receivers continue to be outside looking in.

I'm more confused about the Chiefs' hiring of Brian Daboll as their new offensive coordinator. He was already a free agent, released by the Dolphins weeks ago. So why did this move, as predictable as it was as soon as we heard his name & background, take so damn long? I couldn't be more disappointed in Scott Pioli, I think if things don't go well very quickly, he could be looking for new employment. the Kansas City fans aren't going to be impressed by this move & Daboll comes in here with a real uphill struggle to win both the players & fans. If they win, all will be forgiven, but if they don't calls for Pioli's head will fire up quickly.

Ever heard of Tiquan Underwood? Until last night, he was a wide receiver & special teams player with the New England Patriots. Notice I said "was." Bill Belichick cut him last night so they could promote defensive lineman Alex Silvestro off the practice squad. It tells me he wants fresh legs on his defensive line, even if Silvestro only plays a handful of snaps in today's game. Playing in a dome is hot & the Pats haven't played indoors this season. Most of the New England defensive linemen are of the overly large variety & can tire easily. Underwood, to his credit, took his release with real dignity. He understood why the move was made & since he was active for 8-games this season, he's entitled to a full share of Super Bowl money($88K) & a ring should the Patriots win.

Over 1,100 private jets have flown into Indianapolis' airport in the past three days. many are being parked at a tiny airport in French Lick Indiana(yes Larry Bird's hometown) because there's simply no more room in Indy.

Commissioner Roger Goodell revealed on Mike & Mike in the Morning earlier today that he & NFLPA boss DeMaurice Smith have had discussions this past week about doing away with the Pro Bowl all together. Brilliant move if they make it, the game is a complete & utter joke.

Last minute thoughts about today's game. I think the Patriots will keep their passing routes short, not wanting to give the Giants' pass rush much time to get into Brady's face. I think they'll go with a lot of no huddle so the Giants D-line can't substitute as much as they like. I also believe they will run the ball a lot, at least initially, in hopes of slowing down the NYG pass rush. As for the other side of the ball, if the Giants can run for 100-yards, I think they win the game. If the Giants can isolate slot receiver Victor Cruz on Julian Edelman more than a couple of snaps, the Patriots could be in serious trouble. Edelman isn't as good at playing DB as Troy Brown(also a WR) was in earlier Super Bowls for the Pats. I still like the Giants in a very, very close & exciting game.
Nap time for me & Bear. Enjoy your day.
