JAWS OUT, ALBERT TOO, UGLINESS AT TCU & WHO IS JIM BOB COOTER?
ESPN made a good decision on Wednesday, they took Ron Jaworski out of the Monday Night Football broadcast booth. Don't get me wrong, I think "Jaws" does a helluva job breaking down game plans & film, but he's sort of a drag in the broadcast booth. I never thought he & Jon Gruden were a very good mix & since "Chucky" is the fan favorite, he stays, Jaws goes.

The Buccaneers cut DT Albert Haynesworth in order to save $7.5 million in salary cap money. Albert's days as an NFL football player could be very near the end. He's locked up over $45 million in his 11-year career, I hope he saved some of it.
Saw a quickie preview of the new Mizzou football uniforms from Nike. I was scared they were going to all-Oregon-weird, but from what I saw, so far so good. Thank goodness coach Gary Pinkel had final approval. Their public premiere will come on April 14th.
West Virginia's tab for leaving the Big East is indeed $20 million. The Mountaineers are paying half of it while their new conference partners will cough up the other half. WVU will pay them back with $5 milion in TV revenues this season & the rest out of other revenues over the next two seasons. Since West Virginia's move to the Big-12 became official, the conference released it's 2012 football schedule. The newcomers, WVU & TCU drew the 2nd & 3rd toughest schedule according to a couple of sources ranking such things. Only Baylor got a tougher slate. The three easiest schedules went to Texas Tech(10th), Iowa State(9th) & Texas, gee what a shock.
Chad Jones, a safety for the New York Giants, plans to be ready for the team's OTA's this spring. Jones nearly lost his legs in a horrific car crash in New Orleans 2-months after being drafted in 2010. The former pitcher on the LSU College World Series champs has undergone some 13 surgical procedures since the accident. Tho he's never dressed for a game, the Giants' organization has always kept Jones close to the team, he was on the sidelines of the Super Bowl. I hope this kid makes it back.

Another feelgood story from the NFL, Seattle announced Keneche Udeze will become a coaching intern on the defensive line. The former Minnesota Viking, who was a promising pass rusher in his fourth season, was diagnosed with leukemia & was forced to retire. He is in remission now & wants to continue his football career as a coach. Another great young man who didn't let leukemia keep him from the game he loves.
The Miami Dolphins signed the biggest & baddest running back in the CFL. Jerome Messam signed with Miami on Wednesday. The 6' 3" 245-pound inside runner was the first Canadian-born runner to rush for over 1,000-yards since 2000. Playing for the Edmonton Eskimos, he was awarded the coveted CFL's "Best Canadian Player" award in 2011. Considering the Dolphins' success with Cameron Wake, who they plucked out of the CFL 3-years ago, Messam could be a good alternative to Reggie Bush's outside speed with his between the tackle power.

Local & state police swept over the TCU campus in Fort Worth, executing search warrants, seizing drugs & making arrests, 17 in all. Four of them are Horned Frog football players. Three are starters, LB Tanner Brock(2010 leading tackler), OT Devin Johnson & DT D.J. Yendrey were arrested along with reserve CB Devin Johnson. The early morning raids were the result of a 6-month investigation. Captain Ken Dean of the Ft. Worth police said "we were not targeting students, fraternities or football players. We were targeting drug dealers." Doesn't sound too good for Gary Patterson's team.
The Chiefs filled out their coaching staff with the signing of Derius Swinton as the special teams quality control coach & Jim Bob Cooter as assistant offensive coordinator. Cooter spent the past three seasons in the same position with the Indianapolis Colts. Let the Peyton Manning rumors commence.
Kansas City signed former Denver safety Kyle McCarthy. He was an undrafted free agent from Notre Dame in 2010 & played in 12 games for the Broncos, making 7 tackles. Sounds like just another brilliant personnel move by Scott Pioli. I feel a whole lot better about the depth at safety now, how about you? Don't bother complaining about my negativism, I know I have issues regarding the braintrust over at One Arrowhead Drive.

I don't know how much of the salary cap surplus the Kyle McCarthy signing cost, but without signing any of their own free agents, the Chiefs have $63 million in available cap space. It will be extremely interesting to watch what Pioli makes of this pile 'o cash.
