BOBBY PETRINO OUT AS RAZORBACKS' COACH, BRAVO UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS

For the third time in a year a major college football coach has been fired because of scandal. First it was Ohio State's Jim Tressel, then Penn State canned coaching legend Joe Paterno & now the University of Arkansas has made the right move & dismissed Bobby Petrino as their head coach. Like the others, it had nothing to do with winning football games, like the others, Petrino had a winning record & was wildly popular amongst the school's fans.

Three things led to his firing for cause(meaning no money will be paid on his remaining contract). I said this morning if nothing new came out, Petrino would probably keep his job, points two & three listed below are new information.

* One, "The University of Arkansas found Bobby Petrino knowingly deceived & acted inappropriately in Jessica Dorrell's hiring process." This opened the school up to lawsuits from women who had applied for her position & who didn't get the job.

* Two, Petrino gave Dorrell $20,000 & when asked by Long why, he didn't answer the question.

* Three, several large donors to the University threatened to pull their donations for the building & scholarship funds if Petrino was retained.

The fact that Petrino & Dorrell's fiance, the school's swimming & diving coach, would have to work in the same department was never mentioned but realistically one of them would have had to go. Think trying to get the other coach to go quietly would've been easy? It's a cinch paying off Dorrell & her fiance would have been very expensive, this way, the swimming coach can stay if he chooses, Dorrell & Petrino are terminated without anymore money being spent.

Petrino's dalliance with Ms. Dorrell could cost him $20 million in lost salary, a figure probably not lost on Becky Petrino, his wife. No word on what she intends to do in regards to her future with Bobby. Petrino's brother Paul, the offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach, will also most certainly lose his job when a new staff comes in. Good work Bobby, you're wrecked a helluva lot of people's lives, was it worth it?

For the third time in a year, a major college coach was involved in a messy scandal & in all three cases, they were fired not for the original offense, but the lying, deceit & cover-up. In all three cases the schools made the right decision to dismiss the coach, winning be damned. It kind of restores my faith in people's sense of right & wrong.
