FRIDAY NOTES & MY ROUND TWO CHOICES FOR THE CHIEFS

The University of Arkansas placed Jessica Dorrell on indefinite paid administrative leave. That's what they did with Bobby Petrino before they fired him. I think Ms. Dorrell will suffer the same fate. Good luck getting another job & another fiance for that matter.

Tho they are allowed as many as thirty, the Denver Broncos have held just 3 private pre-draft workouts, strange.

Brandon Albert has changed representation as he prepares for the last season of his contract. Joe Flanangan & Brad Leshnock are his new agents. He joins Glenn Dorsey, Ryan Lilja, Dwayne Bowe, Jovan Belcher & Peyton Hillis who will also become unrestricted free agents after this season.

You've heard me speak of Janoris Jenkins, first round cornerback talent from Northern Alabama. Janoris has had his issues with marijuana, been arrested twice for pot & thrown out of the University of Florida for pot. So when he got Terry Bowden to take him in at Northern Alabama, one would assume he'd straighten up, at least until he got drafted & signed. He needs the money to pay child support on his 4 kids with 3 women. Jenkins told teams that interviewed him at the combine he continued to smoke pot at Northern Alabama, But.....he doesn't smoke anymore. That's what he told NFL scouts & coaches. Yeah, I'm gonna risk a first round choice on Cheech & Chong. The kid is so talented, but tokin' is a very important part of his life apparently & how do you trust him at this point?

Time for my second look at who I think the Chiefs should consider.

Round Two

Picking 12th in this round, the talent pool is less defined as far as ranking goes. Teams at the bottom of round one will often reach for a specific player who was rated as a 2nd round prospect. St. Louis has two picks in the first seven in this round, so there could be some trading as well. Tough to look at the 44th pick & say I have 3 choices, it's more like seven choices. Here we go.

2.   Brandon Weeden--quarterback--Oklahoma State--28 yrs old--6' 3 1/2"  221
I don't know that he lasts this long with Cleveland picking 7-spots ahead of Kansas City. I actually like Weeden more than Ryan Tannehill. He's older, had only 7 more starts, but he is way more ready to play QB in the NFL. Weeden threw 75 TD's to Tennehill's 42 & his completion percentage was better at 69% to 62. Remember, they both played in the Big-12. I think Tannehill is probably going to need 3 years before he can be an effective NFL starter. I believe Weeden will be ready in a year or less. He better be, he turns 29 in October.

2A.  Kevin Zeitler--guard--Wisconsin--22 yrs old--6' 4" 315
Second best guard prospect in this draft. Like so many Badger O-linemen, he's NFL ready right now. Started 36 games for Wisconsin. Very strong head-to-toe, delivers a powerful punch that often stands his man straight up & when he locks on, it's over as he knows how to finish. Smart, excellent work ethic & a mean streak.

2B.  Harrison Smith--safety--Notre Dame--23 yrs old--6' 2' 213
Big, strong athletic safety who started 47 games for the Irish. Superior football intelligence & excellent closing speed when the ball is in the air. Had 7 interceptions as a junior but none his senior season. Has some pop & with his size & closing speed, Smith can play either safety position. Long arms give him the reach of a defender 2" taller.

2C.  Mychal Kendricks--inside linebacker--California--21 yrs old--5' 11 3/4" 239
This is a pretty special prospect. Smart, extremely tough & a LB who hits with real pop. He covers a lot of ground, ran 4.47 at the combine & he plays that fast. Gets excellent pass drops allowing him to stay on the field regardless of down & distance. Had 8.5 sacks as a junior & 14.4 tackles for loss his senior year. His lack of height & about 300 tackles are the only things separating him from 1st rounder Luke Kuechly. This kid can play.

2D.  Alameda Ta'amu--nose tackle--Washington--22 yrs old--6' 2 1/2" 348
Massive Samoan with ultra-powerful lower body, big heavy legs & ass creating a low center of gravity. This guy is tough to move. He has excellent football intelligence & instincts. Superior work ethic & being a good NFL player is important to him. Needs better coaching to help with his hand-fighting. As long as he stays low, Ta'amu is almost impossible to move off his spot.

2E.  Josh Robinson--cornerback--Central Florida--21 yrs old--5' 10" 199
Blazing speed, 4.33 at the combine coupled with a 38.5" vertical leap & very long arms, he plays as a faster, bigger man. His hip flip out of his backpeddle is silky smooth & there aren't many receivers he can't run with. Decent punt returner.

2F.  Kelechi Osemele--guard/tackle--Iowa State--23 years old--6' 6" 333
Massive, powerful with ridiculously long arms & huge hands. Played LT for Cyclones but his best position in the pros will be guard or possibly right tackle. Big upside as he can play 4 positions in a pinch & with his work ethic, he could be a Pro Bowl guard. The only thing that could stop Osemele is his lack of football temperament, he just doesn't play with any kind of an edge. His footwork needs refinement as well. After watching Barry Richardson display the same type of temperament, I'm somewhat skeptical of Osemele.

Round three on Monday.
